On Pink Shores: Yashu e Prem

Crystalline waters, shades of brilliant turquoise, fine white sand, a carved granite landscape all under the glare of an ever burnished sun. This is Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. Long a playground of the glamorous, the allure of the Emerald Coast reached the levels of myth when in 1962 the Aga Khan chose to carve out a corner of paradise for the chosen, fabulous few. Today the island, with it prized beaches and gilded extravagance, remains a rarified world of the rich and the famous.

But away from the flash of the paparazzi, in the sleepy village of San Pantaleo situated in a rustic village house is the dreamy atelier of designer artists Yashu & Prem. Stepping inside is to enter a world of imagination, a gypsy caravan a vibrant prints and bold colors. Yashu, a fiery Neapolitan with intense red hair, waif like in her psychedelic shift dresses, and Prem, a Venezuelan with kohl rimmed eyes, ever draped in floating cottons, each their eyes alive with joy their heads filled with dreams. Theirs is a carefree and breezy aesthetic: a window into their bohemian wanderings, their fascination with the cultures of the world. In an island of escapist follies, the Yashu & Prem boutique and its atmosphere of playful experimentation seem the most effortless, the one space so perfectly reflective of a couple’s soul.
